This course explores the role of music in the human experience through the lens of Latin American and Hispanic Caribbean cultures as we investigate the intersection of music and film, religion, identity, movement, politics, and globalization. We will consider the historical and cultural backgrounds pertaining to the creation and performance of music, as well as the roles of music and musicians in various cultures and comparisons of musical practices in different geographical regions throughout Latin America and the Hispanic Caribbean.
