Degrees
Each student earns a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree based on their primary (first) major, no matter what other majors or minors they may earn. Students enrolled in the undergraduate nursing program will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). See the list below to view the degree earned for a specific major.
Multiple Majors and Minors
Illinois College students with interests in several areas of study may pursue multiple academic programs. The College supports double majors and some combinations of majors and minors, provided that the requirements for each program can be completed through the normal schedule of course offerings. The College is not obligated to approve independent studies or other special scheduling exceptions solely to enable completion of an additional major or minor.
Given the complexity involved, students pursuing a triple major must receive approval from the Curriculum and Educational Policies Committee (CEPC) at least one full academic year in advance of their intended graduation date. Approval indicates that the plan is feasible based on the current curriculum but does not guarantee that all requirements will be available in future terms. Applications for approval must include letters of support from the chair of each program involved, as well as the student's academic advisor.
Students pursuing additional majors must complete a minimum of 24 unduplicated credits for each major, drawn from the required courses and approved elective options listed for the major. If the standard requirements of the programs do not provide enough unduplicated credits to meet this requirement, the areas of study are considered too closely related for students to pursue separate majors.
Students pursuing multiple minors, or a major and a minor in related areas, must complete a minimum of 16 unduplicated credits for each minor, drawn from the required courses and approved elective options listed for the minor. If the standard requirements of the programs do not provide enough unduplicated credits to meet this requirement, the areas of study are considered too closely related for students to pursue separate majors or minors.
